Jewish Center of Ulyanovsk

Dmitrovgrad is a city in the Ulyanovsk Region with a population of over 100,000 citizens, of which nearly 500 are Jewish. Yet there was never a Synagogue nor a Jewish Center there.

This past week, two young yeshiva students from New York flew in to inspire the population of Jews there. Yeshiva students, Dovid Katz and J.J. Hecht, along with entrepreneur Sir B. Katz have arranged an amazing seder event! The crowd was captivated, as for most of them it was their first time ever at a Jewish event! The seder went on for many hours. The guys taught the crowd new songs, spoke about the significance of the holiday and showed them what it means to live Judaism! Many participants were so inspired by this event that they committed to joining more Jewish events. Recently, Dmitrovgrad officially elected a community leader, Mrs. Olga Batchkova. She took upon herself to arrange all Jewish holidays and opened up a Sunday School, closely coordinated with the Jewish Center of Ulyanovsk.

The young Yeshiva Students were flown in by Merkaz Shlichus, a project sponsored by the central Chabad Lubavitch office in New York. We would like to extend a special thanks to its organizer, Rabbi Moishe Kotlarsky.
