Over 100 Jews in Ulyanovsk bought themselves a letter in the Sefer Torah. This began six months ago, when the Jewish Center announced a new initiative to have the local Jews be aware of the vital Mitzvah of owning a Sefer Torah.

There is a Mitzvah for every single Jew to write or purchase his own Sefer Torah. Unfortunately, not every Jew has the ability to do this. This is why the Lubavitcher Rebbe came up with the idea of buying one letter.

Every Jew has a soul and the soul of each Jew is connected to our holy Torah. Through buying even one letter, one connects his soul to his part of the Torah, thereby fulfilling the great Mitzvah of owning his/hers own Sefer Torah.

The Torah which the local Jews are taking a part of is a Torah written in honor of Rabbi and Rebbetzin Gavriel Noach and Rivky Holtzberg HY”D and all the other Kedoshim who were murdered in Mumbai over one year ago.
