This Tishrei was unique and lively! It began with Rabbi Uri Superfin, flying in from Israel with his wife & child, to spend the month of Tishrei with the local community, as there currently is no Rabbi living there. So ended our 6th annual summer children’s day camp Gan Israel Ulyanovsk. Which is always held for 3 weeks during June. In addition to studying the history, traditions and customs, the children made crafts played many games, sports, competitions, races, quizzes, and traveled almost daily to parks and excursions. For the fifth consecutive year, our branch in Dmitrovgrad has been celebrating Purim. This years Purim was extremely festive! Finally it’s realistic for any Jew in Ulyanovsk to keep kosher! We recently opened up a mini kosher store. Our store has a full line of Israeli non-perishable products, meats, wine, matzo and more. I recently started a monthly Jewish women’s program called “Jewish Home”. Women who are interested in broadening their Jewish horizon are treated to a two hour program which usually includes a game, divrei Torah, an activity, and good old-fashioned ladies talk with cake and tea. Read more →

Charity is a new phenomenon for Russian Jewry. Although charity for Jews is age old, dating back to our first forefather Avrohom Avinu – who would wait for hours for guests to arrive at his home, for many living in the Former Soviet Union it is a very foreign concept. Read more →
